Shatter the facing shoulder, blow out the lungs, and blow the off shoulder out on the exit. But for me, I love those Hornady GMX projectiles (or equivalent Nosler E-tips) when hunting with them I deliberately aim for the front shoulder rather then just behind it as normally done with basic lead core thin jacket bullet. Would be great for you guys in CA, and other "fallen states". Yah, I would love it if Hornady would offer a GMX segmented HP projectile for this chambering. Sometimes you can get a real good batch of "Barnaul" but a really good batch of "Tula" isn't usually a thing. Unless for some strange reason I got an extrodinarily good batch of the Tula commercial stuff which is usually a slim to none proposition where slim left town. Two Thumbs Way Up!!! Tese are good uppers with good barrels !!!ĭidn't want to shoot up any more of my good Hornady ammo because I don't know if and when I can get any more and I'm not yet setup to load my own in this chambering and even if I was Hornady is currently the only source of reloadable brass and proper projectiles so it's still a one man band your counting on.īut usually the Hornady will hold groups half the size of the Cheapo Tula commercial stuff so this could be a 1-MOA gun with quality ammo. That's better then that ammo alone is usually capable of. Tula FMJ commercial ammo when I took her out a couple weeks ago. With a cheap Chinesium 3-9x40 scope installed this upper was printing 2" groups with Cheapo 60gr. If anyone else is looking for an upper in this chambering, this turned out good for me. All was good and they did a good job on staking the gas key.

Inspected BCG and inside of upper receiver and chamber and barrel and everything afterwards. All the steel casings in a nice area about three foot diameter about six feet from me to the side. Rand smooth no failures or jambs, consistent exactly 3-o'clock ejection with the H2 buffer and standard GI spec.

Looks like it should hold a respectable 2-MOA or there abouts from a rest once I put a real optic on it and fully sight in and run consistent ammo not "Dogs Lunch" randomized initial function test mags. barrel cut correctly and with correct twist for 55, 59, 60, & 65 grain loads. Nice round holes, absolutely no keyholing it's a true 5.45 spec. It was iron sights only at first 25-yards and then 100-yards and was zeroing as I went with only a hundred rounds or so fired but it performed nicely.

I threw a rear Iron sight on it and put it on top of one of my lowers and loaded up a couple ASC 5.45x39 mags from my own stash plus the one mag they included with the upper with a "Dogs Lunch" variety of Red Army Standard, Wolf, Golden Tiger, Tula, Silver Bear, & Hornady Black all non corrosive commercial stuff (didn't want to have to deep clean as required after spam can ammo) and took a quick trip to the range. So I ordered one, figured it would cost me nearly as much as they were asking for the complete upper to buy all the parts and assemble myself.Īssembled upper showed up in the mail today. Guy said they hadn't put one of those together in awhile and he had to move some stuff because those barrels were in the back behind some other stuff but they had-em. So, I called them up and confirmed they had the parts in stock and available to actually assemble one if I ordered one and they actually got someone on the assembly area to actually go check and make sure they did. So through lots of internet searches I finally had old OA which I didn't even know was still in business pop up a result for this offering way down many pages in the search results.

As some of you may know from my posts on other threads been trying to source parts to build another 5.45x39 upper since I loned out one of the two I had to a friend and I probably won't get it back until the 5.56/.223 ammo drought is over.ĭon't like having just one upper in a given caliber with no back up especially a caliber I have a bit of ammo squirreled away for.Īnyway couldn't find any good barrels currently available except the Model1Sales offerings and although I'm sure their barrels are good I was used to paying $150 for a good barrel previously and they were a little steeper then my liking especially when you add up the inflated prices of everything else it takes to build up a complete upper.
